MICROPHONES
Choose the right microphone that fits your budget, your vocal tone and your studio. The most expensive mic isn’t always the best for you. You need to find the one that works best for you and your vocal range.
RECORDING & EDITING SOFTWARE
Every home studio needs software referred to as a Digital Audio Workstation, or DAW. This allows you to record and edit, enhance voiceovers with music and sound effects, and cut out pauses and audible breaths so your finished recordings sound pristine.
RECOMMENDATIONS
The ONLY one I recommend is Adobe Audition (my favourite!) $20.99/mth as it is an incredible product but there are plenty of free and subscription services out there including Audacity (Free), ProTools, Cubase, PreSonus Studio One, Sound Forge and more (Google is your best friend for your research).
ACCESSORIES
If you’ve got a mic and just need to add the accessories, here are some options for headphones, boom arms, shock mounts and pop filters.
** FYI ** When it comes to headphones, open-back headphones are usually favoured by audiophiles, musicians, and sound engineers because of their accurate and detailed sound reproduction. They are ideal for critical listening, mixing, and mastering music but closed back headphones are better in studio as you can hear yourself better…As someone who doesn’t use headphones when they record, I prefer open-backed ones used only for editing.
